Tahini Ranch

Tahini Ranch

If you are a fan of tahini and a fan of ranch dressing, then this recipe for my Tahini Ranch will be right at home in your kitchen!  This healthy, dairy-free dressing/dip/sauce is good on and with so many things, I don’t even know where to begin.

But I guess I can begin with how I came up with this recipe…

And as a kid I loved ranch dressing. And as an adult I love tahini. But since ranch is often dairy-based, I wanted to come up with a healthy, herby equivalent.

Tahini, in case you didn’t know, is ground sesame seeds (aka sesame butter). It’s used throughout Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisines and is an integral component in hummus, baba ghanoush, and halva.

My favorite brand for this type of recipe is Seed & Mill.

TIP: deeply roasted sesame seeds, known as “sesame paste”, is used in Asian cuisines and has a distinct flavor different from raw or lightly roasted sesame seed butter, known as tahini.

Tahini Ranch turns a beautiful green color with the fresh herbs

Whipping up this dip/dressing/sauce recipe couldn’t be easier. You just put everything into a blender or food processor and whiz a few times until smooth.

And this recipe also happens to be very versatile. I went with lemon, fresh parsley, dried dill and dried garlic, but you can make it how you like, depending on your taste and what herbs or spices you have in your kitchen.

Mix up the fresh and dried herbs to your liking

Here are a few variations on the recipe below…

fresh herbs-

  • basil
  • cilantro
  • chives
  • thyme
  • mint
  • dill

spices-

  • oregano
  • cumin
  • za’atar
