Avocado Hummus

Avocado Hummus

If you’re a fan of hummus and if you’re a fan of guacamole, then you’re gonna love my recipe for Avocado Hummus. This dip tastes like guacamole and hummus met, fell in love, and… well, you know.

Avocado Hummus has all the flavors of hummus ~ as chickpeas, tahini and lemon. And it also has the best parts of guacamole ~ avocado, garlic and cilantro (plus a little avocado oil to make it extra smooove).

If you’ve never made your own hummus, it’s well worth the 10ish minutes it takes to whip it up. You just throw some canned chickpeas in a food processor with a handful of other ingredients, whiz it a few times and, voila! Homemade hummus!

I use this mini Cuisinart food processor.

Sub parsley in this recipe if you don’t love cilantro

Plus making your own hummus is fun because you can vary the flavors according to your taste, mood, or the intended use. For the tahini I like Seed & Mill, or Once Again tahini.

If you aren’t a cilantro fan, first I’ll ask “why not!?”. Kidding. But if you truly don’t love cilantro, just sub parsley here because it works just as well. I just happen to love cilantro so that’s my default herb.

Here are a few variations you can try:

  • add spices such as sumac, za’atar, cumin, smoked paprika or my savory dukkah
  • add a little bit of minced raw jalapeño or fresno pepper for a little kick
  • swap out the chickpeas for black beans for a black bean hummus
  • in place of avocado try roasted beet or roasted red bell pepper

Creamy, dreamy hummus…

Whether you use this avocado hummus for a dip, spread, or sandwich topper, it goes great with just about anything.

How can you use this hummus?

  • as a dip for vegetable crudités, pita bread or seeded crackers
  • on your favorite wrap or veggie sandwich in place of mayo
  • in a grain bowl (bonus: extra plant protein!)
  • for topping crostini or bruschetta
  • as a salad topper

I’m ready to take a dip in that swirl
